Changing your account type
Need to switch from Buyer to Seller, or vice versa? Here's how to change your account type.
Account Type Overview
Referr offers three account types:
| Type | What You Can Do |
|---|---|
| Buyer | Create lead requests, purchase leads |
| Seller | Submit leads, earn money from sales |
| Both | All buyer and seller features |
How to Change Your Account Type
Step 1: Go to Account Settings
- Click your profile icon in the top-right
- Select Settings
- Click Account
Step 2: Find Account Type
Look for:
- "Account Type" section
- "I want to use Referr to..." options
- Radio buttons or dropdown selection
Step 3: Select New Type
Choose from:
- To buy leads (Buyer only)
- To sell leads (Seller only)
- Both (Full access)
Step 4: Save Changes
- Click Save or Update
- Confirm if prompted
- Changes take effect immediately
What Happens When You Switch
Switching to Buyer Only
What you keep:
- All lead requests
- All purchased leads
- Message history
- Profile information
What changes:
- Can't submit new leads
- Lead Sales page hidden
- Seller earnings remain (can still withdraw)
Your existing data is not deleted.
Switching to Seller Only
What you keep:
- All lead submissions
- Earnings and payout history
- Message history
- Profile information
What changes:
- Can't create new lead requests
- Can't purchase leads
- Existing lead requests are paused
Your existing data is not deleted.
Switching to Both
Full access to:
- All buyer features
- All seller features
- Previously paused requests can be reactivated
Requirements by Type
Buyer Requirements
- Valid account (verified email)
- Payment method (to purchase leads)
No special restrictions.
Seller Requirements
- Country supported by Stripe
- Stripe Connect account set up
- Bank account connected
If you're not in a Stripe-supported country: You cannot become a seller or use "Both" mode.
Special Considerations
Seller Balance
If switching from Seller/Both to Buyer only:
- Your earned balance remains
- Can still request payouts from Settings → Billing
- Switch back to Seller to access Lead Sales page
Paused Lead Requests
If switching from Buyer/Both to Seller only:
- Active lead requests are paused
- Sellers can't submit to them
- Switch back and reactivate to resume
Stripe Connect
If switching from Seller/Both:
- Stripe account remains connected
- Earnings and payouts still accessible
- No need to re-verify when switching back

"I'm a Seller but Want to Try Buying"
- Go to Settings → Account
- Change to Both
- Add a payment method
- Create your first lead request
"I Was Doing Both, but Want to Focus on Selling"
- Go to Settings → Account
- Change to Seller
- Your lead requests will be paused
- Focus on submitting leads
"I Tried Selling, but Want to Just Buy Now"
- Go to Settings → Account
- Change to Buyer
- Your earnings remain (withdraw anytime)
- Focus on purchasing leads
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I switch as often as I want?
Yes. There's no limit on how often you can change account types.
Is there a fee to switch?
No. Changing your account type is always free.
Will I lose my data?
No. All your history (leads, purchases, sales, messages) is preserved.
What about pending leads I've submitted?
They remain in the system. Buyers can still purchase them even if you've switched to Buyer only.
What about pending leads in my requests?
They remain pending. If you switch back and reactivate the request, they'll still be there.
Can I have multiple accounts?
No. Please use one account and switch types as needed.
Switching for Teams
If multiple people at your company need different access:
- Each person should have their own account
- Each can choose their appropriate type
- Or consider one "Both" account for full access
